How this is built

Surnames become lanes.

ECO uses the last name each member sets on their profile to assign them a lane. The Vasquez-Nair and Nair lines are separate because Raj came from Kochi — the diagram shows that the two lines met in Los Angeles in 1980.

Marriage merges the lines.

When Elena and Raj set each other as spouses in the network, the dashed arc connecting their lanes appeared automatically. No one drew it — the system inferred it from the relationship each member added.

Time flows downward.

Members are positioned by birth year — Elena and Raj near the top (1940s), David and Priya in the middle (1970s), Leila and Sam at the bottom (2000s). Three generations visible in one view.
