Everything you've added to ECO, in standard formats you can open anywhere, any time, without us.
Data portability is not a courtesy. It is the difference between using a tool and being trapped by one. ECO's data export gives every member the complete contents of their own profile and contributions — not a summary, not a curated selection, not a PDF that only opens in our viewer. Everything, in formats that work everywhere.
What you export: your profile, your memories, your journey posts, your photo gallery, your Future Arcs, your My Story chapters, your quest responses, your relationships, your network memberships, your language contributions. The export is machine-readable (JSON) and human-readable (structured text) — you can open it in a spreadsheet, import it to another platform, search it with any text tool, or simply keep it as a backup that doesn't depend on ECO's continued existence.
Your Future Arcs export as self-contained encrypted files. A message sealed for 2044 does not depend on ECO still existing in 2044. The file is self-contained and readable without us.
Not a platform holding your data. A tool that hands it back.
From your profile tab, tap All My Data. The system assembles your complete export — every record you've contributed, every photo you've uploaded, every memory you've stored — and downloads it to your device. No wait, no email link, no queue.
Profile and biography. Memory Bank entries — memories, milestones, journeys, links. Photo gallery. Future Arcs — sealed and unsealed, as encrypted self-contained files. My Story chapters. Quest responses. Relationships you've named. Network memberships. Language contributions to the Cultural Vocabulary Library. Nothing is excluded.
JSON for machine-readable data — importable to any platform that accepts it. Structured text for human reading — open in any text editor, search with any tool. Photos download as the original files you uploaded — no compression, no format conversion. What you put in is what comes out.
Each sealed Future Arc exports as an encrypted, self-contained file that includes the message, the voice or video recording if present, the sealed date, and a decryption key stored only with you. A message you sealed for a grandchild's eighteenth birthday in 2044 can be delivered from that file even if ECO no longer exists.
The family tree — members, relationships, birth and passing data — exports separately as GEDCOM 5.5.1, the universal genealogy standard. See the GEDCOM Export feature for the full detail.
ECO has none. The data export is the mechanism that makes that true in practice. You can leave at any time, with everything you brought and everything you built, in formats that don't require us to open. That is the only honest relationship between a platform and the people who trust it with their family's history.
