The Historian.

A designated cultural steward.
Named in your community's own tradition.

Vasquez-Nair Family — The Historian
One member curates the record. Note what the role cannot do — that matters more than what it can.

In indigenous communities, there is often a keeper of stories. In faith communities, a custodian of records. In cultural organizations, someone whose role it is to hold and pass on what the community knows. ECO's Historian role is a formal designation for exactly that person.

The Conductor assigns the Historian role to one or more members. The Historian gets access to tools that other members don't have — the ability to post Community Memory content, to flag items as Heritage-protected, to host the network's podcast, to create Historical Figure profiles, and to manage Memory Collections.

The role is named by the Conductor in the community's own language. It doesn't have to be called 'Historian.' It can be called whatever the community calls the person who holds the record.

Every community has a keeper of stories. ECO gives them the tools.

How it works
01
Heritage protection — permanent.

When the Historian flags content as Heritage-protected, it cannot be deleted by anyone — not even the Conductor, not even the person who posted it. Heritage protection is the network's way of saying: this matters to us permanently.

02
Community Memory posts.

The Historian can post Community Memory content — stories, records, and testimonies that belong to the whole community, not to any single member. These posts have a distinct visual treatment in the feed and are searchable separately.

03
The Historian's name is yours to give.

In Māori networks, the role might be called Kaitiaki. In Yoruba networks, Akin. In a faith community, Custodian. ECO presents the role as whatever the Conductor names it. The function is the same. The word belongs to the community.
