The Nation’s data stays the Nation’s.

What the Nation owns, what we may and may not do with it,
and how the Nation takes all of it with it at any time.

In plain words
01
The Nation owns it

Everything the Nation and its people put in belongs to the Nation. Vocabulary, teachings and cultural material are the sovereign property of the Nation, held under its own protocols. ECO owns only the software.

02
We use it for nothing else

Nothing is sold. There is no advertising. Nothing is used to train or enrich any outside system. The only income is the subscription.

03
The Nation can leave with all of it

At any time, on the Nation’s request, ECO prepares a full export of everything the Nation has put in, in files that open without ECO. On request, the Nation’s data is removed and the removal is confirmed in writing.

The details

These commitments are part of the agreement we sign with the Nation. A Nation may ask for more protection, never less.

Who sees what
Private by default
The network is invite-only. The Nation’s own administrators decide who is in it and what each person may see or change.
The Nation’s protocols
The Nation writes its protocols in its own words. They show on the items, recordings and places they govern. ECO supplies none of them.
Sharing outside is the Nation’s choice
Nothing leaves the network unless the Nation shares it with a named outside person, and a release can be withdrawn at once.
Local Contexts
A Nation with a Local Contexts Hub project can link to it. ECO keeps no copy of the Labels.
Taking it with you
Everything, not a summary
The export ECO prepares on request holds everything the Nation has put in, in standard formats you can open in a spreadsheet or text editor.
Office files stay in the browser
Word and Excel files are made in the browser. Nothing is sent to an outside service to make them.
If we end access
The Nation is told and given the chance to export its data first, as set out in the terms.
What ECO does not do
No legal wording
ECO writes no legal wording for the Nation.
Not enrollment, not repatriation
The system does not handle enrollment, descendancy or repatriation matters.
How members download their own contributions themselves.
The full terms, including the protection for tribal and Indigenous networks.

The Nation decides.
We keep the software running.
